At long last, a minor feature and bug-fix release of ThumbJam is about to be released! Soon to follow will be a bunch of new downloadable instruments and loops.

New Features

• Allows background recording, when TJ is being controlled by other MIDI-enable software or hardware, records both the generated audio and the incoming MIDI.
• MIDI Thru mode option (translates scale lock mode if enabled)
• Added Instrument Mute option which silences instrument audio output (Sound->Volume), useful when using ThumbJam as a MIDI controller
• MIDI file export of active loops with 'Open In' in another app, or via email. Now puts all loops into a single Type 1 MIDI file, one track per loop.
• Now responds to MIDI bank and program change messages, to change the loaded instrument, or quick key/scale slot (see manual for details)
• Export/Import of user presets added (for backup purposes), accessible via Wifi Transfer interface
• VoiceOver support improved dramatically: on iOS5 you can now play the instrument on the main play area without switching out of VoiceOver mode. Sliders are now more accessible, properly announcing their name and value, as well as being swipe adjustable.
• Split multi-instrument presets can now be saved
• Can now specify category for user-created instruments
• Added options parameter to specify the concert A reference tuning in Hz

Bugfixes:

• Fixed 'button-of-death' that unexpectedly deleted all user data
• Fixed custom scale saving issues
• Fixed voice stealing when sustained
• Fixed various MIDI event sending buglets
• Fixed occasional loss of downloaded instruments
• Fixed issues with saving the MIDI files
• Fixed issues when other apps change the samplerate, was causing loops/instruments to be out of tune
• Fixed crash with voiceover use on iPad

Well, I'm really bent out of shape about this. Can't get the Trumpet Mute instrument to work at all. When I select it, I get the previous loaded instrument or some sort of mix. Sometimes I get no sound at all. I've opened and closed the app, deleted it and reloaded from iCloud, all to no avail.

Can something be done?

Ok, so I did a search for Geo synth on the forums here and did not see any posts giving a specific guide as to what settings to use to connect Geo synth and Thumbjam up, in order to take full advantage of the huge continuous pitch slides, pitch slides in a melodic part while holding a chord, and independent pitch-bends within a polyphony group. I am sure some of you have already figured out how to set this up, but I had to read a lot of complex posts about the Midi exploits that make this possible before I could figure how to set things up right.

I'm new to the subject. Will anyone point me to a reference on how to use it and what the limitations are? I will not be using this for live p,ay so the ability to use one app to control (if that is the right word) and record is essential. If I understand correctly TJ does not currently provide the ability to record when it is used as a midi controller but it will be added in an update.

But,again, my main request is to learn about core midi.

If you are an ios developer or a producer like me, you have to check this out! I think it´s a interesting way they go and (in my opinion) it could be a coming killer feature for music making apps! I´m sure some heard of course about it but i thought i have to share this here if you haven´t seen!

Hi everyone! So I just joined the Soundcloud revolution and uploaded my first track. It is Thumbjam's Hammered Dulcimer and Animoog's DinoRoad patch. I used littlemidi machine to step sequence and control them. I also did some post-processing in Podium. I recorded the audio out through the headphone jack and I could here it was a bit muddled, but Soundcloud really boosted some stuff I wasn't hearing and now more than regretting using the headphone jack, I regret having my iPad in my lap when I recorded the audio out :-|! Anyways, just a quick sketch, and other than that I think it came out ok.

I've been using ThumbJam to drive FLStudio via rtpMIDI, and it's working great. However, when I use the Drum instrument in ThumbJam, I get a weird sustain effect - the note will carry on for 2-3 secs, slowly declining in volume. This does not occur with any other instrument.

(It doesn't seem to matter what I'm driving in FLStudio - drums, synths, etc.)

Anyone experienced this before?

I can live with it - I've just been using Piano or some other instrument to enter my drum tracks, but I'd prefer to use Drums if possible.

This is why I got Thumbjam after seeing another musician friend using it. It allows me to take my songs with (proper) guitars, bass, drums and vocals, and add a whole other dimension of sound to them. This one used cello and steel guitar as major song features.

I use Thumbjam all the time - both to enhance my songs like this, and to compose from scratch using only Thumbjam on my iPhone.

I think this is a new topic after a brief scan of previous posts. I am using Geo synth as a controller for Thumbjam instruments. This has been quite enjoyable once I sorted out all the connections and 'special' MIDI settings for huge pitch-bends; it is great having both the capabilities of Geo synth and the exceedingly high quality Thumbjam voices. Thank you for Sonosaurus for making such a versatile and capable app!

When using Beatmaker 2 or NLog Midi to control Thumbjam, I notice a lot of missing notes. Like if I'm playing chords or arpeggios, only a few notes of each chord will ring out. I have the polyphony set to the max. The one thing that makes more notes ring out is playing around with the release times in the Sample options. Still though, I have trouble getting the chords to play as they should and as they would sound if I were playing them in BM2 or NLog without using Virtual MIDI. Any tips or suggestions?

Each time I've visited the forums here I've had to get a new password reset. And on the next occasion I try to log in, it tells me the password is invalid. Even though I took heed of the tips to include caps, punctuation numbers etc. It may be me, but it's not looking that way. A little frustrating to be honest....any ideas? Cheers :)

Since you're working on an update would it be possible to do something with the trumpet sample? I've found it to be a bit too wet, for my ears anyway. Just thought I'd ask. Anxiously awaiting the next update.

Is anybody using ThumbJam as a MIdi controller with Windows? I am interested in buying the app, but have bought several apps in the past that claim to work with wireless MIDI, and most of them generate loads of stuck notes, or are unusable in other ways with Windows, so I'd like to hear from some users that have this setup working. Thanks.

Sorry for ask again...i know you planned it for the next update...but when?! Because that i cannot record in background mode seems to gonna be major bug (just for me perhaps)! I love your app really but is there a chance for that soon?! Don't want to make my string works with GarageBand....your strings are the best! And they sound so awesome with SoundPrismPro....but without record....: (((((
